Lake Oconee Quilt Guild Newsletter

November 2019
The Guild Meeting will be Tues, Nov 5, at the Lutheran Church.
In this issue:

SOCIAL - Kathy Sands & Gloria Pingry

Welcome to November, the month to honor our Veterans and give thanks for family and friends. Since we will have Veterans and their families with us for this meeting, I'm hoping there will be volunteer Bakers who will bring some special baked goods for the meeting.

Also, there will be a signup sheet for our Christmas luncheon. We're hoping to have soups, breads and rolls, light salads and a few desserts for this special December meeting.

Thanks to all.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE - Kaye Hlavaty

If you missed the last meeting, you missed the news that we will have a Spring Retreat again this year!  Sally McKinney and Kay Dejno have agreed to chair this event for March 10-13 at Little Ocmulgee State Park. Space is limited, so send your $25 registration fee to Sally and start planning your projects!

Speaking of Kay Dejno, she was the winner of the Gemini cutting system from the Raffle table.  You never know what Anneleas and Sonya have up their sleeves, so don’t forget to bring your $$$ to the meeting.

The program at our last meeting was extremely interesting as we learned about the history of heirloom sewing.  More than a few Members left inspired to sew some memories for future generations.  Our next meeting will also be inspiring as we honor Veterans who bravely served our country.  These Veterans will each be presented with a Quilt of Valor in recognition of their service.  After the presentations, there will be a reception for the Honorees, their families/friends and our Members. Kathy and Gloria are asking Members to bring refreshments that will fit the patriotic theme.

In the afternoon, Shari and Theresa have arranged for a Poinsettia Pillow Painting (PPP) Workshop for Members who registered to take the class.

Please read the newsletter for other exciting events that are happening with our Guild!

LIBRARY - Carol McRae & Donna Blackwell

Members who have books checked out from the Library, please return them or renew your checkout fee.

RAFFLE TABLE - Anneleas Greene & Sonya Winterrowd

Bring your checkbook or your Piggybank change, we'll accept both for chances to win the always-exciting
items we've added to the Raffle Table.  Come see us on your way to the refreshments!  See you on November 5th!

MEMBERSHIP - Kathy Henderson & Becky Kercado

In October we added 3 new members that I would like everyone to welcome to the guild: Connie Hively, Delores Martin, and Cate Wells.  We are pleased to have you join us!  We also had 2 guests: Ann Donald, who has been a member in the past, and Evelyn Luton!  Welcome to both of you and we hope to have you join us again soon!  Just a reminder to all members to check your current address and email when you sign in to make sure that no changes are needed.  Please pick up your membership cards for 2019-2020 and name badges on the piano if you haven't already done so.  See you on November 5th!

WAYS AND MEANS – Pat Gray

Thanks to everyone who bought their raffle tickets in October and for helping to sell raffle tickets at our booth at the Chili Cook-off in Madison on Saturday, 26 October.

If you didn't get your raffle tickets yet, please pick them up at the November meeting: $25 cash or check payable to LOQG.  Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Remember that there is a prize for selling the most tickets!

Following the Madison Chili Cook-off, Theresa Jackson reported that the Guild made $95 from ticket sales.
