Lake Oconee Quilt Guild Newsletter
January 2020
The next Guild Meeting will be Tues, Jan 7, at the Lutheran Church.
In this issue:

Please consider joining the leadership of your Guild!  It is an honor and an opportunity to bring fresh ideas to the Membership.  Please sign up for an Officer or a Committee position.  Position descriptions may be found in the By-laws which are posted on the website.
Thank you!

Happy New Year!  The year “2020” is a great time to think about what you will look forward to with 2020 vision and clarity.  Do you have an exciting trip or family event planned?  Have you made a New Year’s resolution that will improve your life and/or the lives of others?  Or, will you continue just being you, which is also a good thing!  Whatever 2020 has in store for me, I pray that I will accept life as it happens and come out a better person.
Thank you to those who made our Christmas meeting and luncheon such a success.  It was fun to enjoy great fellowship along with delicious food and beautiful decorations.  After the meeting, the Executive Board met to solidify the next six months on the Guild’s calendar.  Be sure to attend the meeting on January 7 to see what is on the horizon.
The meeting in January will be followed by a needle-turn applique class. With this in mind, I would like to share the following website with you:  “One Piece at a Time”   This website’s tag line is, “A large helping of applique with a side of piecing”.  The Author of the site, Erin Russek, has a BOM that will begin in January.  For the cost of $10 you receive the middle medallion for her quilt, “Home Again”; each of the following blocks is provided at no charge.  All the details are in her 12/18/19 blog post.  For those new to applique (hand raised here!), Erin Russek provides a lot of additional instructions as well as patterns at her site. The website ,has been added to the Links page on our LOQG Webpage.

I am looking forward to seeing each of you as we begin 2020 together!

First I'd like to give a great shout out to Jane Harding who made all the table decorations and cute Santa's for our holiday luncheon.  As she quipped so aptly, "There's snow friend like you"!
And a second shout out to all our Quilting Chefs; without them, we wouldn't have had the great soups, salads, breads and desserts.  A great time was had by all.
Now, before we start our New Year's resolutions:  If you have any cookies, sweets or savories you'd like to share, please bring them for all to enjoy at our January meeting.
Again, many thanks!

Jennifer McClanahan of Sweet Tea Pattern Co. will be our guest speaker and instructor at a January meeting.
She will provide a trunk show of her quilts and discuss how fabric choices can make a traditional pattern appear modern or a modern pattern appear traditional.

At her class, she will present instruction on needle turn appliqué technique and will provide all materials needed for class except scissors.  Participants should bring their own scissors.
We still have room for more participants.  Bring your scissors and plan to join us.  The fee for the class is $25.00
