Lake Oconee Quilt Guild Newsletter

Jun  2017
REMINDER: The next Guild meeting is Tuesday, June 6, 2017.
In this issue: MEMBERSHIP - Libba Holmes, Julie Elder

What a fabulous, fun auction we had in May!  In attendance were 62 members and 5 additional guests for a total of 67 ladies.

Our June 6 meeting and luncheon is for members only.  We don’t know what surprises will be in store for us, but you won’t want to miss this meeting because it is always a treat.  Please wear your name tag so people can call you by name.  It feels much friendlier when we can do that.

We will be accepting dues for the 2017-2018 year on June 6.  If you want to avoid long and uncomfortable lines in September, please bring your $25.00 dues and pay in June.  That way you can pick up your membership card at the September meeting and be able to get a Guild Member discount at many quilt and sewing shops.  Our current cards expire at the end of August.   If you bring a check, please make it out to LOQG.

Hope to see everyone on June 6.

PRESIDENT - Carolyn Wren

We had a spectacular auction for our May meeting.  I want to thank Mary Kay Mouton, Marian Jordan and Nancy Veal for their efforts to present everything and keep it organized.  Also, special thanks to our Auctioneer, Virginia Daley and to the ladies who kept up with everyone’s bids.  We could not have done it without you all!

At the next meeting, we will present the new Board to you.  We still have a few openings, so it is not too late to volunteer
I look forward to seeing the Challenge quilts.  I know that they will be wonderful.

The secret word is “challenge”.

PROGRAMS - Connie Lord

Thank you for your support of the programs this year.  Also, thank you for your help setting up and cleaning up after workshops.

There is one last Programs item to do before next year and that is to sign up and choose the design you want to do for Regina's workshop in October.  Regina's workshop is an all-day Wednesday workshop.  The $80 fee includes cost of class and all materials.  All you have to bring is yourself.  How neat is that!  Please make your checks payable to Regina Carter, not to LOQG.  Regina needs to work on quilting our projects over the Summer.  Getting these together takes time and she needs to get as many as possible done before Guild starts back in September.  She will have some last minute people in September so please, sign up early.

I do hope someone will consider doing Programs with Barb Pailloz next year.  It is good to have new people and new ideas.  I want to do Show and Tell next year, not because it is easy but I like taking photos and I want to get more information about your projects and post that.  I also want to work with Linda Hammock on getting the pictures back on the web site.  Show and Tell is probably the most interesting part of our meetings and I want our projects to be more than a quick show.  I have Programs and workshops arranged for next year.  You don't have to be at every workshop but you do need to make sure you appoint someone to be in charge to see that everything is in order and the church is locked.

Again, look me up at the luncheon to sign up for Regina's class and make your $80.00 check payable to Regina Carter.

LIBRARY - Kathy Sands

Our library table will be set up this month in case you are planning any quilt  projects over the Summer.  You can borrow any library book and bring it back in September for $2.00.

Books due:

Stauffer, Jeanne - "Lots of Scraps...it's time to quilt" - Millicent Zamirowski *

Hickey, Mary - "Cottage Style Quilts" - Linda Huggins*
Overdue*

Have a great Summer!

 RAFFLE TABLE  Sally McKinley

Since we have the auction this month,  there will not be a raffle table, so make sure you bring extra money for the auction.
  SOCIAL - Pat Gray

Our June 6 Luncheon will be a tea party.  All Members are asked to bring two sandwiches, cut into small portions with crusts removed, AND something else, e.g., strawberries dipped in chocolate, a yummy fruit tray, or whatever tea party food you want to bring.   The sandwiches will be put on trays at the church.

In keeping with the tea party theme, please put your salads, desserts,  etc. in nice bowls or on pretty trays with appropriate serving utensils.  Please cut foods in serving sizes if needed.  If you need inspiration for fancy party food ideas, check on Pinterest online @ www.pinterest.com.

We have planned games, prizes, food and plenty of fun!  We also plan to have hot tea available, so you are welcome to bring your own china tea cup to use.  Just a reminder that only current Guild Members are invited, no guests please.  Hope you all will be able to join us at 10a.m. on Tuesday,  June 6th.

Board members are asked to please help set up for the luncheon on Monday, June 5th at 10 a.m..

CHALLENGE QUILTS - Regina Carter

Please bring your Challenge Quilts to our June Meeting, concealed in a bag.
We are so excited to see them!
